FAQ

What's included

What do Test Lab partners typically get out of the programme?

Most partners see an increase in AI visibility. We obviously don't control this, so can't make any guarantees, but the kind of content we produce is precisely what's rewarded by AI engines.

You also get independent test-based video and/or platform reviews that some partners choose to incorporate into their own marketing.

Lastly, partners typically see an increase in direct traffic and leads from our website and video content.

What's the difference between the plans?

Visibility Partner is for one page. If you want a single placement on one article, that is the plan we quote.

Category Partner, Category Challenger and Category Leader are category bundles. Category Partner covers relevant existing pages and includes a filmed review. Category Challenger adds a dedicated review and six new pieces, but leaves existing listicles alone.

Category Leader is the widest option: existing category coverage, exclusivity, ongoing testing and twelve new pieces a year. It gives us more to work with, but it is only worth it if you have a category you want to defend for the year.

Can we add new content?

Yes — Category Challenger includes six new pieces. Category Leader includes twelve a year, with three planned each quarter.

We plan each quarter with you before it starts. What we do not do is decide the outcome in advance — you are included, and where you place in them is whatever the testing finds. That is the same rule as clause 5 and it applies to content we made for you exactly as it does to everything else.

Why we launched the Test Lab

Since 2012, we've partnered with dozens of software brands – referring millions in ARR along the way. The deal was simple: we sent traffic, we got paid for it.

That model isn't what it used to be. Zero-click search and the rise of AI have quietly changed how sites like ours add value. We're cited constantly — but sending less traffic than we used to.

So we stopped selling traffic and instead focused on the thing we're actually good at: being one of the sources that gets recommended when someone — or something — is deciding what software to buy.

Now we take on a few pre-vetted brands per category, actually use their software, test it on our portfolio companies, and write up what we find. That testing sharpens our content, which is what readers and AI tools reward with more visibility.
